New Attitudes
For those of you with planets in the mutable signs Sagittarius, Pisces, Gemini and Virgo, especially at 10 - 20 degrees, you have a personal connection to things happening in the sky now. Jupiter in Gemini and Mercury in Sagittarius, both travelling retrograde, are in mutual reception. Jupiter is the ruler of Sagittarius and Mercury rules Gemini. What it means for us if they have something to offer each other - Mercury, a lively curiosity and communication; Jupiter deepens the conversation with philosophical beliefs. Both are retrograde, meaning their action produces a new perspective in beliefs (Jupiter) as new facts (Mercury) are introduced.
Jupiter in Gemini and Mercury in Sagittarius are both in tension (square) with Saturn in Pisces (the ending of a cycle). Obviously, in the world, a new philosophy and a different set of realities are coming to a head. This is true on a personal level, too. Time to let things percolate inside ourselves even as we see the astrological weather take on a different flavor.
This applies to ideas central to our ego, our identity, as the Sun (ego) is closely intertwined with the mutual reception. In mundane astrology, the Sun is the leader or the Executive Branch, so it can indicate that big ideas (Jupiter) cannot rely on luck alone. Those ideas need careful consideration and changed, if need be, due to a new perspective.
The way out of the dilema posed by the positions of Jupiter in Gemini, Saturn in Pisces and Mercury in Sagittarius is to use the skills of the fourth mutable sign: Virgo. Virgo is known for its discernment. Be discerning as you define your changing perspective.
In December, 2020, both Jupiter and Saturn were conjunct (fused) at 0 Aquarius. It was the beginning of a cycle. It was followed by the January 6, 2021 insurrection. Now, Jupiter in Gemini and Saturn in Pisces are not fused; they exist in tension with one another. Jupiter (religion) in Gemini (logic and inquiry) vs. Saturn (limitation; boundaries) in Pisces (the bigger picture & compassion). That square feels cold to me and may be evidence of the desire by some to cut social programs - all logic and little heart.
Interestingly, Pluto is now occupying the 0 degree Aquarian zone. For good or ill, transformation in democracy and equality. Pluto can behave much like a mafioso, relishing power and control. Aquarius can be a rebel, a revolutionary. It was inevitable that democracy would be overhauled during Pluto In Aquarius, but HOW that is accomplished can be easy or difficult. Aquarius is an air sign. Its shadow side is to dissociate from compassion.
It isn't time to act, although many will be tempted to do so. There are people who are not acting on new ideas, because they just don't see a clear path to the future. They may feel restless, but listless. It is not a time to rely on luck or think "Everything will be all right." Patience. Let your vision and philosophy firm up. You will find your way. But now is the time for thinking and visioning. Actions may dissipate as soon as the planets go into forward motion. Think of the three R's: review, refocus, re-evaluate.
If you can wait, start a new project after the retrogrades are over. Mercury retrograde ends December 16, but it will not pass the point where it went retrograde until January 3. Jupiter will end its retrograde period on February 4.
